Bruno Perillo graduated from The School of The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA, in 2002. He has exhibited extensively and currently resides in New York City. Perillo grew up in the Midwest and spent much of his youth drawing the places that surrounded him. These rooms, spaces and landscapes would eventually lay the cornerstone by which he has based his unique aesthetic. Using a variety of distinct styles, Perillo frequently paints portraits which depict compelling subjects from the new bohemian culture. He renders a particular ‘truth’ in his work by capturing moments of uncertainty and allowing those moments to ‘just be’; this invites the viewer to resolve for themselves the narrative of the work. The settings for the figures in Perillo’s portraits are often times dark spaces; quiet landscapes where the viewer is uncertain whether or not the environment depicted actually exists. Portraits in themselves these lucid mysterious landscapes drift at the border between that which might be possible and that which alludes to the improbable. Perillo’s detailed, sculptural renderings, bold style and unique compositions place him squarely as a contemporary intimate in the pantheon of portraiture.
